It is the year 3603 BBY. The Republic was defeated by the New Sith Empire in a tragic war that ended with the Sacking of Coruscant. However, the Sith withdrew their forces and gave the Republic a chance for peace. The Republic eagerly accepted it, and a state of cold war resulted. The treaty, however, was extremely harsh on the Republic. They were force to pass ownership of several worlds to the Sith, and whenever a Republic ship enters airspace above a planet it must declare its location to the Sith. Furthermore, the Sith have assigned “protocol” droids to shadow certain prominent members of the Republic to “remind them of the provisions of the treaty.” For the past 50 years, the Republic has been living under this treaty and rebuilding its resources to try to build a military large enough to withstand the Sith. There have been no major conflicts between the Sith and Republic up until now, but there have been numerous border skirmishes. The Republic has recovered enough to hold their own against small Sith attacks, though they still have not fully recovered from their massive losses in the war. The Jedi order was severely crippled in the war, and much of the blame for the events of the war was placed on them. Due to antagonistic feelings toward them on Coruscant and a refusal by the senate to rebuild the Jedi Temple after the bombing, they have relocated their headquarters to the planet Tython. Currently, feelings in the Republic are negative all around and discontent abounds.
