In Mexico City there are nearly 25,698 people deprived of their liberty. 24,348 are men and 1,350 women. For example, in the Women's Center for Social Reintegration of Santa Martha Acatitla in the mayor's office of Iztapalapa, 1,205 women live; All of them, believe it or not, are women full of hope and while they serve their sentence they can do great things just to be heard.
A pumpkin colored story
These places hold thousands of stories, few of them are made known to the outside world. Such is the case of María Elena Moreno, better known as Maye within the Santa Martha Acatitla prison.
Before coming to this place, she lived with France Mobile Number List her father who worked all day, and her mother, who was a housewife. The three spent their days in a pumpkin-colored house on the outside, but this house, inside, was painted gray due to the mistreatment and violence towards Maye by her mother.
The constant cruelty towards her led her to commit a crime against the woman who gave her life, which ended with the pumpkin color of her house, dyeing it a shocking red.
Although this story seems taken from a story, it is not, it is real and to date, hundreds of people know Maye's life, through the play called Pumpkin House. This has been the winner of the National Penitentiary Theater Competition, which portrays a dark story, but in which, the now playwright, takes refuge and frees herself to tell her truth outside of this prison.
A day inside the women's prison in Santa Martha Acatitla
A few days ago we visited the Women's Social Reintegration Center of Santa Martha Acatitla, where happy women welcomed us with a smile that, despite their circumstances, does not fade.
To enter this center, we had to use a glass door. Once we passed it, a long hallway full of bars awaited us. Upon entering, near a small grocery store, we could see women wearing blue and beige. Surrounded by brightly colored murals, which reflect their desire for freedom, the contrast of high security fences and wire fences is brutal.
With the activities offered inside this prison, the inmates have the opportunity to smile again just as they did when they lived outside.
The women of the prison enjoyed the movies under the stars
